Task One: Key Features of Jazz Musical theatre dance
The stylistic features of Jazz dance
Isolations - Movements that involve only one part of the body while the others remain still
Low centre of gravity - Grounded movements, often with knees bent
Jazz Hands - A musical theatre/jazz gesture in which the hands are waved rapidly to and fro with the palms facing forward and the fingers splayed, commonly used to indicate or express excitement.
Throughout the beginning section of the dance 'Ex-wives' we have to strike different poses to match each beat of music. When doing these we have to include a level of sensuality and sass to create strong poses that match the lively and sassy song. In some of these poses I also use isolations to create different shapes with my body such as isolating my wrist or head to enhance the sass I am trying to communicate. The dance also includes lots of slow and sensual drops and poses which back up the use of sensuality in this dance.
At the chorus of the song 'Ex-wives' we used slow to fast dynamics on the line 'welcome to the show, to the historemix' where we slowly drag our right arm out to the side in a slicing motion then juxtaposing that by suddenly changing the tempo and quickly slicing our left arm out and turning.
