Task One: Evaluation of process and performance of SIX

Evaluation: Reviewing my performance of SIX Identifying strengths from feedback  An evaluation of my strengths from SIX the musical. I personally think that I have improved greatly when it comes to my dance skills throughout the rehearsal process and the performance as a whole. My overall technique and skills have been consistent and have enhanced throughout the process of this show. This evaluation is based on peer and teacher feedback, also using feedback from audience members.  Stylistic quality  I believe that the quality I offered when dancing in specific genres was strong and accurate throughout the production of SIX, based on my personal experience and feedback. I thought that my posture, alignment, dynamic range, facial expression, relationship of movement to the music, and rhythm continually demonstrated precision and strength in my dance style. All of these technically accurate characteristics enabled me to execute a strong jazz dance performance. This was...

Task One: Teacher Feedback of performance of SIX

Image
Teacher feedback  From this feedback I can confirm that I delivered a strong performance, with a strong understanding of style and choreographic intent. I communicated the meaning of each number through my facial expressions and characterization. I can also confirm that my accuracy in delivering the style and intent of each number was very strong throughout, consistently showing and executing the jazz techniques with confidence. This was evident in 'Ex-wives', specifically the dance break where I was executing strong isolations, contractions and maintaining a low center of gravity, all jazz techniques.  I can also affirm from this feedback that I had a strong grasp on the choreographic intent/ dance idea and was successful in communicating the story and meaning behind each song, shown specifically in 'No Way'. Again, in this number being positively told that the dance break section was strong and that I that my sense of style was very accurate, having a great understan...

Task One: Peer/Self-Assessment

Peer assessment  Conclusion of feedback and how to improve my skills further From this peer assessment, I can conclude that my performance was strong and consistent throughout the whole performance. It is clear that my peer can note that my technique was also very accurate and consistent, the same with my characterization and use of expressions. From this and comments from other peers, I can confidently say my facial expressions and projection of character has greatly improved from our first rehearsals of this show. I now need to develop them further to match every genre. I felt I excelled in the sassy and dramatic dances; however, I need to work on my facial expressions in emotional and melonic songs such as 'Heart of Stone'. I need to be able to dance and show the emotion and sadness that the song is portraying to make sure I am consistently projecting the meaning of the song. I will do this by practicing future dances in front of a mirror and focusing on my facial expressio...

Task One: Performance of SIX the musical

Performance of SIX the musical  The discussion of my personal performance and feedback from audience members   1.1 Style: How accurate was my interpretation of the choreography and my execution of the style in which we were working? I personally think my interpretation of the choreography was strong and true to the style we were dancing in. An example of this was in ex-wives which was a hip hop, upbeat dance with jazz dance influences (splayed hands, low center, use of dynamics etc..) and I personally think I executed these styles through the whole of the number accurately, using jazz techniques to communicate the sassy and upbeat nature of the choreography. I also had positive feedback on the use my use of isolations, contractions and overall strength in the dance break of this number, again communicating the styles and techniques of jazz dance. I also included a heavy amount of sensuality, another quality of jazz dance, I completed this through the use of my facial expressio...

Task One: Rehearsal schedule and time management

Image
Rehearsal schedule  Below is the rehearsal schedule for SIX the musical, who was needed, and specific timings were included for us to follow.  Time management  Time management was vital and very important for this production. Each and every one of us had to make sure we were available for each rehearsal, this especially for days on our timetable where we aren't usually in. I take pride in my own personal time management and punctuality; I know I am usually early/on time and rarely late to things, so this schedule was easy for me to follow. It was important for me to be in every rehearsal including open events and extra rehearsals, making sure I was attending every rehearsal, so I wasn't missing anything added or changed. It was also important that I was using my time wisely, making sure on late night rehearsals/shows, I had completed any work for the next day ahead of time. I made sure to use my rehearsal time wisely by making sure I was always giving every rehe...

Task One: SIX rehearsal log - progression/improvement

Ex - Wives  After looking back on the first videos of rehearsing this number I can confidently say I have made a huge improvement on this opening number. To start, the poses we strike on 'divorced, beheaded, died' etc., I feel that in the final rehearsals of this section my positions where much stronger and in time with the other dancers, same for the improvised poses we do after this section. The poses I did during the very first rehearsal looked weak and unfinished, I also heavily lacked facial expression (see first video on blog). Comparing them to my final rehearsals I can say that the poses are much sassier and overall stronger, reflecting the song as a whole. I also noticed that my overall energy has majorly improved during this number. After knowing the choreography perfectly, I now had to work on my timing, especially for the dance breaks. In the first rehearsals of this number, it is evident that I was unsure of the timing during the first and final dance break durin...
